Almost every week I get a call that starts the same way. "Bhai, mujhe bhi online store chahiye, Daraz jaisa." The business owner has seen competitors selling on Instagram, maybe tried a Facebook page, and now wants a proper website.

I've been doing ecommerce website development in Pakistan with Ayera Digital since 2019, and here's the honest truth. The website is rarely the hard part. The decisions you make before a single page is designed matter far more.

So this is what I tell clients in that first conversation.

Most Stores Fail Because of Planning, Not Design

A beautiful store with no plan for delivery, returns or payments will struggle. I've seen it happen.

Before we talk about themes, I ask three questions:

  1. Who is going to pack and dispatch orders every day?
  2. Which courier will you use, and have you opened an account?
  3. What happens when a customer wants to return something?

If you don't have answers yet, that's fine. But get them before launch day.

Shopify, WooCommerce or Custom Build?

This is the question I get asked most.

Shopify is my usual recommendation for brands that want to start fast and don't have a developer on hand. It's stable, the admin panel is easy for staff, and good themes make a Shopify store in Pakistan look professional quickly. The catch is the monthly fee in dollars, which hurts when the rupee drops.

WooCommerce runs on WordPress. You pay for hosting instead of a monthly subscription, and you get more control. A WooCommerce website in Pakistan suits businesses that also want a strong blog for SEO. It needs more maintenance though. Plugins break after updates, and someone has to fix them.

Custom development makes sense only if your business has unusual needs, like B2B pricing for wholesale buyers or a product configurator. For most small businesses, it's overkill.

My blunt advice: don't pay for custom when Shopify or WooCommerce will do the job.

Plan for Cash on Delivery First

Plenty of foreign tutorials assume everyone pays by card. That's not how Pakistan shops.

A large share of orders on the stores we've built still come through cash on delivery (85% on a recent client store). So your checkout has to handle COD smoothly. That means phone number verification, order confirmation calls or WhatsApp messages, and a clear policy for fake orders.

Add JazzCash and Easypaisa integration too. Some customers prefer paying upfront, especially for lower priced items, and a few give a small discount for prepaid orders. That one change can cut down returned parcels a lot.

Courier Integration Saves Hours Every Day

If your team is copying addresses by hand into a courier portal, you're wasting time. Most major couriers here, like Leopards, TCS, PostEx and Trax, offer integrations or plugins that create bookings straight from your store.

When we set this up for a client, the daily dispatch routine went from 3 to 4 hours to a few minutes. Tracking numbers go to customers automatically, which also means fewer "where is my order" messages.

Your Store Lives on Mobile

Almost all your traffic will come from phones, much of it from Facebook and Instagram ads. A mobile friendly online store isn't optional.

I check three things on every build:

  • Pages load quickly on a normal 4G connection, not just office WiFi.
  • The "Add to cart" button is easy to tap with a thumb.
  • Checkout fits on a few screens without endless scrolling.

If a store fails any of these, ad money leaks away.

What Does an Ecommerce Website Cost in Pakistan?

Honestly, it depends on what you need, and anyone quoting a fixed price without asking questions is guessing.

The main cost factors are the platform, the number of products, custom features, payment and courier integrations, and whether you need product photography or written descriptions. A simple Shopify setup costs far less than a WooCommerce store with custom wholesale pricing.

What I'd warn against is the very cheap package. Those stores usually use a pirated theme, skip SEO basics, and leave you stuck when something breaks. Paying a bit more upfront for proper ecommerce website development in Pakistan usually saves money within the first year.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to build an online store?

A standard Shopify or WooCommerce store usually takes two to four weeks, depending on how quickly you share products, images and content. Custom builds take longer.

Can I sell on Daraz and my own website together?

Yes, and many brands do. Daraz brings traffic, while your own website builds your brand and gives you customer data you can use for remarketing.

Do I need a company registration to accept online payments?

Requirements differ by payment provider. Most ask for business documents, so check with JazzCash, Easypaisa or your bank before launch.

Which platform is best for a beginner?

For most first time sellers, Shopify. It's the easiest to manage without technical help.
